After suffering a huge disappointment last season, the Los Angeles Lakers are expected to make a huge roster overhaul this summer. Aside from getting rid of players who don't fit alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the Lakers are also searching for quality veterans who would help them reclaim their throne in the 2022-23 NBA season.

Since the 2022 NBA offseason started, the Lakers continue to be linked to some big names rumored to be available on the trading block.

One of the most realistic trade targets for the Lakers this offseason is veteran shooting guard Buddy Hield of the Indiana Pacers. The Lakers have had their eyes on Hield since the 2022 NBA trade deadline. Though they failed in their previous pursuit of Hield, the Lakers are still very interested in adding him to their roster.

While LeBron James' camp is focused on acquiring Kyrie Irving from the Brooklyn Nets, Jovan Buha of The Athletic revealed that some people inside the Lakers organization prefer the deal that would send Hield to Los Angeles.

Proposed Lakers-Pacers Trade

Despite their limited trade assets, the Lakers could come up with an intriguing offer to convince the Pacers to make a deal. In a recent article, Jason Reed of Fansided's Lake Show Life suggested three Talen Horton-Tucker trades that make perfect sense for the Lakers.

These include a hypothetical deal enabling the Lakers to get Hield from the Pacers. In the proposed trade scenario, the Lakers would send a trade package that includes Horton-Tucker, Kendrick Nunn, and Mason Jones to the Pacers in exchange for Hield.

Hield may not be an All-Star, but it's not surprising that the Lakers badly want to add him to their roster. The potential arrival of Hield in Los Angeles would boost the Lakers' offense and help them address their lack of floor spacers around their superstars. He would give the Lakers a reliable scorer behind James and Davis, as well as a decent playmaker and an elite three-point shooter.

Last season, Hield averaged 15.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.8 assists while shooting 40.6 percent from the field and 36.6 percent from beyond the arc.

Why The Pacers Would Make The Trade

If the trade becomes a reality, it wouldn't only be beneficial for the Lakers, but also for the Pacers.

With the team currently in the initial phase of the rebuilding process, keeping the 29-year-old Hield no longer makes any sense. Instead of letting him take away some playing time from their young core next season, sending him to the Lakers would enable the Pacers to add three players who could be part of their long-term plan.

Horton-Tucker, Nunn, and Jones could join forces with Tyrese Haliburton, Bennedict Mathurin, Jalen Smith, and Isaiah Jackson and form the core of the next title-contending team that the Pacers will try to build in Indiana.
