Well, the setting couldn't be better, but the matchup certainly could. This year's 'Field of Dreams' game will feature two teams with no postseason aspirations, as the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds travel to Dyersville, Iowa, to try and relive the magic from Kevin Costner's classic film.

But even though a playoff berth isn't in play here, these two teams will still do their best to put on a show and top last year's dramatic clash between White Sox and Yankees.

Most insiders predicted the Chicago Cubs to be aggressive sellers before this year's trade deadline. They had multiple players set to become free agents, including Willson Contreras and Ian Happ.

While they made some moves and offloaded talent, both Contreras and Happ stood pat and will finish the season at Wrigley Field, perhaps a questionable decision as they're likely to walk away for free in the winter.

The Cincinnati Reds are nearly 20 games below .500. They were expected to be a bottom-feeder after offloading most of their talent in the offseason, and letting go of Luis Castillo just put the last nail on their coffin.

Chances are that it'll get a lot worse before it gets better in Cincinnati. They're in for a long-overdue rebuild and it'll be quite a while before they go back to contention, especially with the Brewers and Cardinals in their division.

Key Stats, Injuries, And Trends

When it comes to positional players, both teams will be mostly healthy ahead of this matchup. The Chicago Cubs will be without veteran OF Jason Heyward, who's out for the season, as well as Michael Hermosillo. For the Cincinnati Reds, Tyler Stephenson, Mike Moustakas, and Aramis Garcia will stay in street clothes.

Talking about trends, it's worth noting that the Cubs are 6-0 in their last six games vs. a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30, 0-3 in their last 13 when their opponent allows five runs or more in their previous game, and Reds are 1-4 in their last 5 when their opponent allows two runs or less in their previous game.

While neither of these teams has a big edge over the other, the Cubs will have the better pitcher on the mound tonight. Drew Smyly (4-6, 3.97 ERA) has found plenty of success in six appearances (five starts over the Reds, going 4-0 with a 3.41 ERA.

The Reds will counter with rookie SP Nick Lodolo, who's got a 3-3 record with a 4.40 ERA in nine starts this season. He's never faced the Cubs, giving the 'visitors' a slight advantage for tonight's 'Field of Dreams' classic.
